Vitamin D is not just a vitamin, it is also a pro hormone. There are many causes to being deficient, and the major cause is not getting enough sunlight. You will only get small amounts of vitamin D through diet alone. Make sure you are getting enough vitamin D, because it’s an immune boosting nutrient that you’ve got to have!

The Vitamin D Society of Canada recently issued some VERY important news!

There has been new research on the Vitamin D effects of Tanning Salon Sunbeds and Vitamin D. Tanning salon beds are very and highly effective in raising serum levels of Vitamin D. Those who use them, are able to attain optimal levels during winter. (More than 100 nmol/L). This is great news for Canadians, who receive little to no Vitamin D in winter. Vitamin D deficiency due to a lack of sun exposure, is a major problem for Canadians, which becomes larger each year.

Study finds boosting vitamin D could save 23,000 Canadians lives, $12.5 billion in healthcare spending

Sunbeds which emit UVB are an effective alternate vitamin D source during winter months, according to a new Canadian study. Participants in the study who used sunbeds emitting UVB rays in the range equivalent to outdoor summer sunshine increased their vitamin D blood levels on average by 42 nmol. Researchers determined Canadian vitamin D levels have actually been dropping since the last time a similar study was carried out in 2010, putting more people at risk of life threatening illnesses. The study found that if Canadians raised their vitamin D blood levels to an optimal 100 nmol/L, it may prevent 23,000 premature deaths and save $12.5B annually in direct health care costs by bringing in policy changes that promote messaging around safe sun exposure.

It would be like saying that since water causes drowning, we should avoid all water. Yes it causes drowning, but our bodies NEED water. Similarly, we need sun exposure; we would die with out it.

Tanners Have Canada’s Highest Vitamin D Levels

According to a study by Dr. Gerry Schwalfenberg, People who use sunbeds have the highest vitamin D levels of any group in Canada! Regular sunbed users have mean vitamin D levels of 94 nmol/L — or 38 ng/ml, compared to the Canadian average was around 68 nmol/L — or 27 ng/ml.
